We're looking for a Video Producer + Editor to own delivery across Mwendo's projects. You'll be Mwita's right hand on execution, managing client relationships from kickoff to delivery, running our freelance editor and crew bench, and keeping every project on time, on budget, and on brand.
This is a senior role with a clear path to Head of Production as Mwendo grows.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Project Management & Client Ownership (40%)
Own end-to-end project delivery for assigned client work
Lead client communication from kickoff through final deliverable
Manage project budgets, schedules, and scope
Run pre-production logistics, production scheduling, and post-production handoff
Anticipate problems before they reach Mwita; flag what needs his attention
Production & Post (30%)
Able to shoot, produce, and edit hands-on depending on project needs and budget.
Hire and manage freelance production crew
Hire and manage editors for Lucid Link remote post workflows
Oversee technical aspects of all deliverables, ensuring quality control and meeting distribution specifications
QC every deliverable before it goes to client
Organize and maintain all media assets and project files
Maintain project archiving protocols
Manage and maintain Mwendo's camera, lighting, audio, and grip equipment
Hold the bar on quality for Mwendo’s brand
Business Operations Support (20%)
Maintain project tracking, client files, and post-project documentation
Support proposals and quotes for new business
Build SOPs and workflows that make the next hire easier
Attend weekly Mwendo sync and client meetings as needed
Creative Collaboration (10%)
Contribute to creative direction in pre-production and post
Bring an editor's eye to story structure
Identify opportunities to strengthen story, pacing, or production value
REQUIREMENTS
IDEAL QUALIFICATIONS
5-8 years in documentary or commercial production
Has run mid-six-figure projects from kickoff to delivery
Expert-level Premiere Pro proficiency required. Must independently handle quick revisions, project prep, archival, and small edits without depending on freelancers
Working knowledge of After Effects, DaVinci Resolve, and audio mixing fundamentals
Comfortable maintaining and managing production equipment
Comfortable client-facing; can hold a budget and a difficult conversation
Editor and shooter background a plus, but production management is the headline skill
Familiar with the nonprofit, education, or impact storytelling space (or genuinely interested)
Sterling, Virginia area (in-person collaboration is the default)

WORKING RELATIONSHIP
Full-time, primarily in-person at Mwendo's Sterling, VA area office
Some remote flexibility once workflows are established
Direct report to Mwita
Travel for shoots (domestic and occasional international)
Measured on outputs, not hours
PAY & BENEFITS
$75K-$90K base, depending on experience
Healthcare stipend ($400/month)
10 PTO days (+1/year of service)
7 paid holidays + Christmas to New Year's break
401k + up to 6% match after first 6 months
